Centre College has once again been recognized for its commitment to extraordinary education at an affordable price. The College has been named to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance list of the Top 400 Best College Values for 2019, ranking in the top 50 overall college values.
This ranking adds to the list of “best value” accolades Centre has recently received. Fiske named the College a “best buy” in the annual Fiske Guide to Colleges.
Kiplinger’s Personal Finance starts with data from nearly 1,200 public and private institutions. The list is then narrowed to the top schools based on measures of academic quality, including SAT or ACT scores; admission and retention rates; student-faculty ratios; and graduation rates. The schools are then ranked using cost and financial aid measures. Academic quality carries more weight than costs.
Centre’s focus on affordability is among the most generous of any top national college, with 90 percent of incoming first-year students receiving aid, according to Kiplinger’s, averaging $30,467.
Merit-based awards, such as the Grissom Scholars, Lincoln Scholars and Brown Fellows programs, which awards full-tuition plus and full-ride plus scholarships, allow talented students to receive an extraordinary education without the fear of crippling debt.
Recent graduation rates at Centre topped 82 percent, which far exceeds the national average. Return on investment is also illustrated by Centre alumni, with 97 percent of students employed or in advanced study within a year of graduation.
