Motivated by their love of film and inspired by the film studies classes the filmmaking duo has taken throughout their Centre College education, Evan Aroko ’20 and Eric Maloney ’20 recently co-directed the short film Off the Page, to be entered into the My Rode Reel short film competition.
“I found the ad for the My Rode Reel film competition when scrolling through Instagram, and I sent it to Evan. We both figured that this was our chance to work together on something and really test our filmmaking skills. We definitely feel like we succeeded in achieving what we set out to do,” Maloney said.
Off the Page, a three-minute feature presenting a cast of Centre students, is a closely personal piece to the co-directors, “bringing to life” the creative struggle and manifesting into reality the various genres that excite imaginations.
“We really wanted to remind our audience of the power of creativity and human imagination and how both can bring enjoyment and excitement into one’s livelihood and everyday responsibilities, especially for those who choose to embrace both gifts,” explained Aroko.
