Centre to host IdeaFestival, March 29

Centre College will host IdeaFestival Student Day, highlighted by Career Maker Faire, for the first time on March 29, in the Norton Center for the Arts. The event is presented by the Bluegrass Higher Education Consortium, an initiative of Bluegrass Tomorrow, and is a cooperative effort between Centre College and Asbury University.

“The IdeaFestival is an opportunity for Centre to bring local students to campus for education and inspiration, and a way for us to fulfill our mission of preparing students for lives of learning, leadership and service with a broader group,” said Patrick Noltemeyer, special assistant to the president and chief planning officer.

The event exposes middle and high school students to a wide array of options and gives them a chance to focus on college and career choices and STEM disciplines: science, technology, engineering and math.

Representatives from Kentucky colleges, universities, businesses and organizations will offer hands-on interactive exhibits and displays, in addition to a variety of TED-style talks and keynote speakers.

“Centre has been heavily involved in recruiting the participants and has worked closely with local schools to facilitate student engagement,” Noltemeyer explained. “I look forward to the chance to welcome 500 local students to campus who might not have visited before, and to be inspired, myself, from the TED-style talks.”
