Charles Ely ’19 ‘expands worldview’ with internship in Myanmar

Charles Ely ’19 (Louisville, Kentucky) is using his economics, finance and computer science skills this summer in Yangon, Myanmar, as an intern for Myanmar Strategic Holdings.

“I’m assisting in business development activities, and more specifically, researching Myanmar’s healthcare sector in aim of determining worthwhile entrance opportunities,” he said. “I’m working with one other intern on this healthcare project under direct supervision of one of the firm’s Financial Analysts and under ultimate supervision of one of its partners.”

Ely said he chose this particular internship because he intends to have a career in finance, and he felt obtaining pertinent work experience in an emerging market is an exciting and challenging way to pursue it.

“I want to be acquainted with truly understanding markets in challenging informational circumstances, as well as be fluent in financial modeling,” he added.

Having interned in Myanmar last summer, Ely was able to adapt rather quickly to the lifestyle and culture of the country.

“This internship is incredibly beneficial from a professional perspective, as well as from a worldview expanding one,” he concluded.
