Dr. Dina Badie's take on the crisis in Ukraine

Recent events in Ukraine have been analyzed by some as an attempted power grab by Russian president Vladamir Putin; however, in a recent op-ed piece for the Lexington Herald-Leader, Assistant Professor of Politics and International Studies Dina Badie argues that Western powers have actually provoked Putin’s actions.
“If anything, the expansion of NATO onto Russia’s doorstep, Western attempts to pull Ukraine into its sphere, recent support for protests against the democratically elected leader and seemingly immediate recognition of a new, anti-Russian government that came to power on dubious grounds are undeniably provocative,” Badie writes.
