E-commerce internship in Shanghai gives Miles Diehl ’21 global experience

Throughout the fall semester, Centre College junior Miles Diehl (Louisville, Kentucky) has been exploring Shanghai, all while gaining internship experience as an e-commerce consultant for the Brown-Forman organization. His role has been to observe and critique the e-commerce initiatives in the China specific market.

“As a consultant, I get to work side by side with the e-commerce team and help develop marketing strategies for different products and regions,” he explains.

Diehl acknowledges Centre for teaching him numerous “applicable skills” during his first two years at the College, as well as the skill-set to manage a challenging workload.

He also expresses gratitude for the Centre Commitment—a guaranteed internship, research or study abroad experience in one’s four years at the College—for providing him the opportunity to explores new cultures and further his education in business, especially e-commerce.

Diehl notes that this internship has aided in his preparation for a future career and helped him develop a greater understanding of e-commerce trends in one of the “biggest markets ever to exist.”

The highlight of his internship abroad, he explains, has been the opportunity to meet and work alongside e-commerce workers face-to-face while discussing various trends and ideas.

“I’ve gained a lot of knowledge about e-commerce and it’s role in the gigantic Chinese market.”

After graduation from Centre, Diehl plans to pursue a career in behavioral economics.
