Families looking for the “best bang for the buck” when their kids embark on the college search have yet another resource in a nationwide “best value” ranking by SmartAsset, a web-based financial technology company.
And if the prospective student is looking to pursue an undergraduate degree in Kentucky, Centre College is recommended as the #1 option.
SmartAsset’s methodology is focused on both the true cost of attending college and what students get in return.
By weighting starting salary, tuition and student living costs evenly at 25 percent each, along with scholarships/grants and student retention rates at 12.5 percent each, SmartAsset has created a “value index” to determine the best college values in each state.
Centre scored highest in Kentucky in part by earning by the highest retention rate of 93 percent, which is 30 percentage points ahead of the state average and 23 percentage points ahead of the national average.
Positive outcomes in average scholarship and grant awards ($25,483), average starting salary ($46,700) and low student living costs ($12,830) also helped strengthen the ranking.
Centre’s #1 ranking in Kentucky is an honor extended by a host of other rankings, such as U.S. News & World Report, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, Money magazine and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.
