Centre College claimed the top ranking among all Kentucky colleges and universities in Forbes’ recent state-by-state roll call of the nation’s leading institutions. The designation further confirms Centre’s reputation as one of America’s best college values, as the annual review considers outcomes above all measures.
To compile the breakout listing, Forbes looked to its annual “America’s Top Colleges” report, released in August 2015, to determine the best college or university in each state. Centre is ranked alongside the nation’s top colleges and universities in this category, joining company with such premier schools as Brown, Emory, Pomona, Princeton, Rice, Williams and Yale, among other best-in-state standouts.
Overall, Forbes recognized Centre as #89 out of all colleges and universities in the U.S., the highest of any Kentucky school, #42 among national liberal arts colleges and #4 among liberal arts colleges in the South in its earlier nationwide analysis.
According to Forbes, Centre distinguishes itself among colleges across the nation by its emphasis on educational outcomes, as evidenced by the 95% of Centre students who are employed or in advanced study within a year of graduation.
Among other criteria, Forbes’ top-college methodology also takes student satisfaction into consideration, looking at high graduation rates and low-levels of student debt. In each of these categories, Centre continues to impress.
The College’s 80 percent four-year graduation rate reflects the strength of the Centre Commitment, which guarantees every student graduation in four years, a study abroad experience and a research or internship opportunity.
Centre also prides itself on remaining one of the most affordable private liberal arts colleges in the nation, offering some of the most generous financial aid and scholarships. More than 90 percent of students receive some form of financial aid, another key measure connecting opportunity with exceptional value.
“The fact that we keep good company among the best of the best in American higher education is a testament to the talent of our faculty and staff,” Centre President John A. Roush said, “along with our focus on quality and affordability.”
