Friends and family gather for Kitty Baird Center dedication

The Kitty Baird Center, a newly renovated multi-purpose athletic facility located at the South Fields area of campus, was dedicated on campus with great fanfare on Oct. 22, as part of Centre College’s Homecoming festivities.

The building’s namesake was an iconic figure at Centre. Baird spent more that 50 years at the College as a coach, professor and administrator, and she is credited with establishing its women’s varsity athletics programs. The Centre community was saddened by the passing of this pioneer in 2014.

The 3,000-square-foot free-span building houses Centre’s After School Program (ASP) and provides space for fitness and recreation programs.

Members of Baird’s family were special guests at the dedication, including Baird’s husband, Ernie, and her daughter, Kathy Baird Kendrick ’86. Speakers included Centre President John Roush; Gina Nicolleti, associate athletic director and senior woman administrator; and Mary-Chapin Snow ’17, student-athlete and director of ASP.
