Governor’s School for the Arts final day showcases students’ talent, interdisciplinary work

As the Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) concludes its final week at Centre College, students and faculty alike are preparing for the program’s annual Final Day Celebration & Graduation. The culmination of three weeks of intensive arts training, the festival showcases the artists’ work for parents and community members.

The festival will take place in various venues around campus and Danville on Saturday, July 8, starting at 11 a.m. and running until 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the community.

“I’m thrilled for the parents, mentors and loves ones of the 2017 GSA class to join us on Centre’s campus for a glimpse of the many projects and performances the students have been developing over the past three weeks,” Director Nick Covault said.

All nine disciplines—architecture and design, creative writing, dance, drama, musical theatre, new media, visual art and vocal music—will have their work on display.

“I’m especially excited for the various interdisciplinary collaboration between art forms,” Covault added. “One of GSA’s foundational lessons is how we as artists can work together to create work greater than ourselves, and I think the GSA spirit will be especially present in these collaborations.”

Below is a guide to the Final Day Festival events. Printed guides will also be available in the grand foyer of Centre College’s Norton Center for the Arts on the day of the event.
