Incoming first-year students to read Bryan Stevenson’s “Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption”

First-year students entering Centre College this fall will read Bryan Stevenson’s “Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption.” Programming for events connected to the reading experience will be announced in late summer.

The award-winning work has received numerous accolades, including the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards for nonfiction.

“Just Mercy” is a memoir of Stevenson’s experiences working against inequalities in the justice system.

In 1994, he founded the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama, which is dedicated to “challenging racial and economic injustice and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.”
