J.H. Atkins commemorates 1964 Civil Rights march in Frankfort, Ky.
Today marks the 50th anniversary of the historic Civil Rights march in Frankfort, Ky., led by the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. An anniversary march was held this morning in the state capitol to champion a different civil right: House Bill 70, which, if approved, would restore voting rights to convicted felons who have served their sentences.
In a recent Advocate-Messenger article, Centre College’s Associate Professor of Education J.H. Atkins (right) recalls the historic 1964 march and outlines his reasons for joining the 50th-anniversary march alongside local Boyle County High School students.
