GSP returns to Centre’s campus for 38th year
As a part of the College’s longstanding partnership with the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program (GSP), Centre recently welcomed the program’s 2026 class to campus.
For five weeks, almost 350 of the Commonwealth’s brightest rising high school seniors will enjoy a taste of the liberal arts and experience life on a college campus.
Centre is one of the three colleges hosting over 1,000 high school students this summer, joining Murray State University and Morehead State University.
Scholars will be taking classes, engaging in activities on campus and exploring Danville and Central Kentucky. Surrounded by a community that values growth and belonging, scholars will learn more about themselves and the world around them.
“Centre's mission is to prepare students for meaningful lives of learning, leadership and service, which makes joining forces with GSP such a natural fit,” Pam Baughman ‘93, Centre’s GSP liaison and Dean of Alumni & Family Engagement, said at the opening ceremonies. “Our partnership with the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program spans decades, and we are so thankful to serve as a home away from home for the next five weeks.”
Centre’s collaboration with GSP dates to the program’s inaugural class of 1983, when the College was a host site. This marks the 38th year scholars have been on Centre’s campus.
With a partnership extension announced last year, Centre will continue to be a GSP host site through at least 2028.
Centre’s support of the students participating in the program includes the GSP Guarantee, a scholarship available to all participants, regardless of host school, worth $140,000 ($35,000 annually for each year for four years) upon admission to Centre.
“It is an honor for Centre to serve as a host, and we are deeply grateful for GSP's commitment to this next generation of civic and economic leaders,” Baughman said. “This program reflects an extraordinary dedication to exceptional young people and to the Commonwealth.”
