Centre extends contract with Governor’s Scholars Program, welcome students to campus

For the 36th year, Centre welcomed the Kentucky Governors’ Scholars Program (GSP) to campus with 355 of the Commonwealth’s brightest rising high school seniors enjoying a taste of the college experience over five weeks.
The College and GSP have agreed to extend their partnership for another three years. Centre is one of three colleges in the Commonwealth to be a host campus through 2028, joining Murray State University and Morehead State University.
Founded in 1983, the program offers over 1,000 Kentucky students a challenging learning experience grounded in the liberal arts and sciences.
“Centre and GSP share values of dedication to fostering community leadership, intellectual curiosity and contributing to the greater good of the Commonwealth,” said Pam Baughman, Centre’s GSP liaison and Dean of Alumni & Family Engagement. “It’s an honor to be chosen as a GSP campus site and have the opportunity to invest in our best and brightest.”
In additional to classroom learning opportunities, the Centre community supports scholars as they experience life at college. As they embark on this transformative program, they’re immersed in an environment that fosters growth and belonging.
“I think we’re the ideal residential setting for students to be comfortable navigating campus,” Baughman said. “Scholars and GSP faculty and staff have an amazing experience while they’re here at Centre.”
Similarly, providing a supportive environment for young scholars’ academic and personal journeys is a cherished highlight of the partnership.
“Centre students exemplify how an outstanding liberal arts and sciences education can prepare you for career success and personal fulfillment,” said Centre College President Milton C. Moreland. “The Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program is a wonderful way to give Kentucky’s most promising students a head-start on that journey. We’re honored and excited to continue this impactful partnership with GSP.”
Centre is committed to further supporting scholars financially as they embark on the college search this upcoming year. Upon completion of GSP, they’ll be eligible for an automatic GSP scholarship worth $120,000 ($30,000 annually for each year for four years) upon admission to Centre.
