Norton Center for the Arts goes behind the scenes with Australia’s national circus

This weekend, the big top is rolling into Danville, Ky., all the way from down under. Circus Oz, Australia’s national circus, will be performing at the Norton Center for the Arts, and to kick off the festivities, the group will hold two free workshops on Friday, Feb. 14.
The first is a lecture demonstration about the unique design features of circus acrobat costumes. Their clothing must be able to withstand constant use and wear while enhancing aspects of their physical theatre performance. This event is open to the public and will be held in Room 504 of Grant Hall, from 3-4 p.m.
The second workshop is for anyone interested in learning more about clowning techniques and clown acting. This will also be held in Room 504 of Grant Hall, from 4-5 p.m. Cast members of Circus Oz will provide demonstrations and pointers.
Circus Oz will take the Norton Center stage on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. Tickets and other information can be found at or by calling 859.236.4692.
