The sounds of clippers and laughter filled the air during Centre College’s Carnival on May 8 as Phi Kappa Tau fraternity sponsored the annual St. Baldrick’s event on campus to raise money for childhood cancer research. This year the fraternity raised several thousand dollars for the cause.
The fundraiser has grown from a one-off in 2000 into an annual nationwide event that raises millions. Sponsors donate money to individuals and teams, who shave their heads in solidarity with young cancer patients who frequently lose their hair during treatment.
The event takes place in partnership with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives.
