Poet and CentreTerm Visiting Professor Bianca Spriggs will be reading from her work this Thursday, Jan. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Vahlkamp Theater at Centre College.
An Affrilachian Poet and Cave Canem Fellow, Spriggs is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Lexington, Ky. Named as one of the Top-30 Performance Poets in the country by The Root, she is the recipient of a 2013 Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship in Poetry and multiple Artist Enrichment and Arts Meets Activism grants from the Kentucky Foundation for Women.
Spriggs is the author of Kaffir Lily (Wind Publications, 2010) and How Swallowtails Become Dragons (Accents Publishing, 2011), in addition to the forthcoming titles Call Her By Her Name (Northwestern University Press, 2016) and The Galaxy is a Dance Floor (Argos Books, 2016). Among many other credits to her name, she is editor of Circe’s Lament: An Anthology of Wild Women Poets (Accents Publishing, 2015) and creator of the multi-media performance The Thirteen.
