SGA President to represent AIKCU students on Board of Student Body Presidents of Kentucky

Centre College’s Student Government Association President Kirby Fitzpatrick ’18 has been appointed by the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (AIKCU) to represent nonprofit, private colleges and universities on the Board of Student Body Presidents of Kentucky.

Since its establishment in 2013, the board has been composed of student body presidents from Kentucky’s eight public college’s, two from the Kentucky Community and Technical College and one private college representative selected by AIKCU, which represents the voice of all private Kentucky colleges and universities.

“I feel honored to serve in this capacity,” Fitzpatrick said. “While Centre is a close-knit community, it is rewarding to engage with other students throughout Kentucky on ways we can make higher education more accessible throughout the state.”

Fitzpatrick’s main role on the board is to represent the voice of Kentucky’s private colleges and universities.

During the monthly meetings, she will report on what the student governments and institutions are working on, as well as provide new perspectives to the board.

“I am most looking forward to learning about the creative ideas and initiatives that other students are working on,” she said. “I am also excited to brainstorm with other student body presidents about how we can improve our own student governments, as well as our own institutions.

“Kentucky is full of hard-working, dedicated students, and I am excited to learn from such an outstanding group of my peers,” she continued.

Fitzpatrick is anticipating the opportunity to engage with other students from private schools in Kentucky. While representing all of the private institutions in the state, she realizes it is her responsibility to make sure she’s representing the voice of all of them.

In addition, Fitzpatrick has been in contact with Mason Dyer, vice president of external relations and information for AIKCU, with the hopes of organizing a conference for student body presidents of other private schools in Kentucky in order to share ideas and understand one another better.
