Sports Illustrated and other media highlight senior athletes’ feats

Centre College seniors Chrys Jones and Chris Morris have been making headlines since they first became Centre students. Now, during their last weeks at the College, the two outstanding athletes have accomplished two more incredible feats: Jones, who in March won his fourth national track and field championship (by winning the triple jump at the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships) was featured in the May 16 issue of Sports Illustrated, while Morris won the men’s golf Division III national title on Friday, May 13.
In the Sports Illustrated “Faces in the Crowd” feature, Jones was given props for his first-place triple jump victory at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship meet in Memphis, a win that helped the Colonels clinch their first team conference title. The article also mentions that “in March, Jones won his second straight D-III indoor triple jump championship for his fourth title overall in indoor and outdoor track.”

A Maysville, Ky. native, Morris won the individual title at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championships before heading to the national championship. Morris won the men’s golf Division III national title by four strokes and set a new championship record with a score of 274.
During the national competition, he also helped lead the Colonels to their seventh-place victory, the team’s best finish in Centre history.
“It feels like a storybook ending to my college career,” Morris told Lexington’s Herald-Leader.
Morris’s news has been shared in numerous newspapers and on several television stations.
