Stephen Dockins ’16 and Tanner Lyons ’16 present collaborative research at conference

Two Centre College students recently presented their research at the 40th West Coast Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Conference at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, Calif.

Stephen Dockins ’16 and Tanner Lyons ’16 began working with Dr. Peggy Richey, professor of biology and chair of biochemistry & molecular biology in fall 2014 on their collaborative MurA project, an interdisciplinary research initiative exploring the discovery of new antibiotics.

Their team presentation qualified Centre as the first college in the state of Kentucky to participate in this particular research conference. The annual event provides a forum for undergraduate researchers to present original data they have generated in the fields of biology and biochemistry, while fostering intercollegiate interactions among students and faculty who share a commitment to undergraduate research in the biological sciences.
