Well-being Workshops and Trainings

The Health Promotion team is excited to offer a variety of presentations and trainings to the Centre community.

Health Promotion works closely with both Counseling and Health Services to provide training opportunities. Topic areas covered include alcohol and drugs, finances, nutrition, mindfulness, stress management, sexual health, violence prevention, suicide prevention, and body positivity.

Attendees will:

  • Be able to identify, understand and access resources provided Health Promotion
  • Be able to identify wellness resources on campus and within the community 
  • Attain an understanding of holistic wellness 
  • Be provided the tools to develop a skill to create habits/behaviors that enhance their wellness
  • Attain an understanding of the relationship between wellness and personal growth

Fall 2024 topics include:

Introduction to Intuitive Eating

Learn how to normalize your relationship with food through the Introduction to Intuitive Eating. Students will learn weight-neutral and non-diet strategies to recover their inner wisdom around nutrition and self-care. The ten principles of Intuitive Eating help students learn to trust their body's internal signals to make food decision that work for them, without self-judgement or diet culture influences.

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR)

The Health Promotion Team and Centre Counseling Services offers ongoing QPR classes intended to teach participants three steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. QPR is a free, 60-90 minute suicide prevention training that teaches participants how to recognize a suicide crisis and how to get help.

You Can Help a Student: Creating a Community of Care in Your Classroom and Recognizing and Responding to Students in Distress

This 60 to 90-minute in-person workshop is similar to the “You Can Help a Friend” training. It is designed to help your faculty and staff understand how to identify and support struggling students and refer them for further support when necessary. Guided discussion points are embedded in the downloadable slide deck for this training. 


Topics include: 

  • Understanding current trends in mental health among college students.
  • Understanding your role in supporting students
  • Identifying signs of distress in students.
  • Discussing barriers to helping students.
  • Knowing how to engage in conversation with a student in distress. 
  • Listing places and resources that can be used to support a student.

Introduction to Mindfulness 

Learn stress reduction skills through mindfulness practice!  Koru Mindfulness® is an evidence-based curriculum specifically designed for teaching mindfulness, meditation, and stress management to college students and other young adults. Workshop 60-90 upon request.

Nature Minded Wellbeing Workshops

Experience firsthand how connecting with Nature can help quiet the busy mind through mindfulness practices that both awaken the senses and open the heart. Participants will recognize how the habitual patterns of a busy life create a sense of separation, alienation, and isolation from the natural world. 45-60 minute workshop.

Don't Cancel That Class! Initiative

Are you expecting to miss one or more classes this semester due to a previously scheduled personal or professional engagement? Don’t Cancel that Class! The Health Promotion Team would be happy to take advantage of your class time to provide health and wellness education to your students.

Faculty and staff have the option to request a workshop centered around various wellness topics such as budgeting and finances, stress management, body image and nutrition, sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, and more! Presentations last about 1 hour.
