The Centre College Class of 2027 is shaping up to be one for the record books.

In fact, it already is. More students have applied for admission than ever before in the College’s 204-year history.

In total, applications are up 20.7% over last year with students from 41 states and 14 countries vying for a spot.

“Centre’s reputation as a premier liberal arts and sciences institution is well-earned and a testament to our excellent faculty and staff,” said Centre President Milton C. Moreland. “Our graduates go on to amazing careers. Our return on investment is world renowned. We have seen the transformative effect a Centre education can have on students, and we are honored so many highly accomplished students are interested in joining the ranks of Centre alumni.”

Not only is the pool of applicants the largest in school history, it promises to be one of the most geographically diverse in memory with international students making up 36% of the group. Additionally, applications increased for students in Georgia, New York, California, Texas, and Arizona, among other states.

Some 17 percent of those applying identify as first-generation college students, while the same percentage of domestic students come from underrepresented backgrounds.

As travel restrictions have eased, Centre has seen an 80% increase in international applicants this year. In addition, the numbers of students from Eastern Kentucky leapt by 43%. The College's ties with the Kentucky Governor’s Scholar Program were also strengthened with a 20 percent increase in applicants who took part in the prestigious summer program.

“Each year, the best and brightest students are welcomed onto campus to begin their Centre experience. I’m excited to see what contributions the Class of 2027 will make in the classroom and to campus culture,” said Interim Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Pam Baughman. “Students are motivated by Centre’s engaging academic culture and strong career outcomes, as well as guaranteed opportunities to explore the world and participate in hands-on research or community engagement.”
