Listserv Moderation Policy
The College values open and respectful dialogue and supports the free exchange of ideas consistent with the principles of academic freedom. Employee listservs are important tools for communication, collaboration, and community building. To support a productive and inclusive environment, the College will moderate listservs only under the following circumstances.
- Violation of College Policies
- Messages that violate college policies related to equal opportunity, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, including those outlined in the Faculty, Staff, and Student Handbooks.
- Posts that include personal attacks, bullying, or defamatory content.
- Use of listservs for promoting goods, services, or campaigns not affiliated with the College.
- Accidental Reply-Alls
- Moderators will reach out to individuals to confirm their intent before approving messages in which the respondent appears to have replied-all accidentally.
- Moderation will take place during Centre work hours, which are weekdays from 8:00-5:00 p.m. that are not designated College holidays. If an email is sent to a listserv on the weekend or on weekdays either before 8:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m., that email will be reviewed for release during the work hours of the next Centre workday.
Moderation Process
If moderation is deemed necessary:
- The sender will be notified and given an explanation.
- The sender may request a review or appeal through Academic Affairs for faculty, Student Life for students, or Human Resources for staff.
