Student Government Association

Representing students as their official voice

The Student Government Association (SGA) represents students in conversations with College faculty, staff, and administrators; oversees student organizations; and proposes changes to improve student life.

How SGA Works

SGA consists of an Executive Council of officers and committee chairs, a Student Senate that handles academic issues and a House of Representatives that oversees student clubs and organizations. SGA meets biweekly to vote on club funding requests, legislation, and the varying needs of Centre students.

Elections

SGA follows an annual election cycle. Executive Council and Student Senate positions are nominated and elected during the spring semester. Class Representatives are then elected at the beginning of the following school year.

Candidates who wish to run to be a class representative must collect at least 100 signatures from members of their respective class. Once these signatures are completed and turned in, the candidate is eligible to appear on the ballot. Each class then votes for their Class Representative.

Committees

The Campus Improvements Committee monitors the services and facilities available to Centre College students and makes relevant recommendations to the College administration on behalf of the student body. The Committee also considers issues, institutes projects, and initiates legislation to improve the quality of campus services and facilities.

The Communications Committee works to enhance the communication between SGA and the student body by informing the campus community of SGA meetings, legislation, resources, initiatives, events, and more.

The Culture Committee works to promote an inclusive campus culture through collaboration with faculty, staff, and administrators. The Committee investigates student concerns regarding inclusion or bias and organizes a semesterly mental health week in collaboration with our Mental Health Advisory Board.

The Dining Committee serves as the liaison between the student body and the College's dining service, bringing forth and considering issues related to our dining options on campus.

The Finance Committee manages the SGA Budget, allocating funds to both SGA and clubs/organizations. The Committee also run audits on budget utilization and assists with emergency funding requests to support a robust campus life.

The Programming Committee plans and coordinates SGA events, including Homecoming, SGA Retreat, Forums, Town Halls, and any workshops.

The Student Affairs Committee oversees and supports all clubs and organizations on campus, working to enhance the social and extracurricular experiences at Centre College. The Committee also considers issues, institute projects, and initiate legislation pertaining to all areas of student life.
