Pre-Optometry

The Pre-Optometry Program at Centre is your first step toward a rewarding career in vision health care, where you’ll make a difference in your community while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Overview

Centre’s Pre-Optometry Program sets you on a clear path toward a fulfilling career in eye health care. After Centre, Doctors of Optometry (O.D.s) will complete a four-year graduate degree program at a school or college of optometry.  Most optometry students first complete an undergraduate degree with a major in the sciences. Faculty mentorship and advising help guide you through the preparation process, including entrance exams and application requirements. Whether you are bound for optometry school or considering a career in an associated field, this program will help you plan your path. The Pre-Optometry Program ensures you are academically prepared, confident, and well-positioned for success in optometry school and beyond in your professional career.

Curriculum

Students interested in pursuing a degree in optometry after Centre should expect to take courses in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and other disciplines. Your faculty advisor will provide guidance as you schedule your classes.

Experiential Learning

Students engage in hands-on learning experiences and reflection to develop skills and increase knowledge retention.

Taking part in the Pre-Optometry Program will offer you professional and graduate school advising, interview preparation coaching and Optometry Admission Test (OAT) exam prep support.

Internships

We're committed to helping students find quality internship experiences in the career area of their choice.

Students in Centre’s Pre-Optometry Program have taken advantage of internships in eye care centers, as a pediatric technician at the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and with the Orbis International Flying Hospital.
