Pre-Social Work

Overview

The social work profession has a strong ethical core that emphasizes social justice. Enrolling in the Pre-Social Work Program is an excellent step toward a meaningful and  consequential career. This program provides a strong foundation in anthropology, sociology, psychology, statistics, and other disciplines, equipping you with essential skills to support individuals and communities in need. Whether you aspire to work as a clinical social worker helping individuals, married couples, and whole families, or supporting larger communities in a  school, hospital, or state government, the military, or a non-profit,  this program fosters critical thinking, communication, and advocacy skills you will need to succeed. Centre’s liberal arts approach to education will also prepare you to tackle the large-scale issues of social welfare by working with nonprofit organizations or government agencies.

Curriculum

Centre’s Pre-Social Work Program allows you to build a solid foundation in an array of disciplines, preparing you to pursue post-graduate studies. You can expect to take courses in anthropology, sociology, psychology, statistics, and other areas of study.

Experiential Learning

Students engage in hands-on learning experiences and reflection to develop skills and increase knowledge retention.

Pre-Social Work students might work with the Association for Substance Abuse Policy, the Family Services Association, a study of homelessness that reported to local government, a study for a pay-what-you-can café.  They can also learn about testing and diagnostic procedures for various populations served by social services.
