The Forgotten Voices of Kentucky: A Glimpse of Kentucky's Indigenous History

Young 113

"BiPOC," an acronym for Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color. Sadly, very little visibility and acknowledgement is afford to the community represented by the "I." Officially, 574 American Indian tribes are recognized by the U.S. government in the contiguous 48 states and Alaska. Here in Kentucky over 170 American Indian tribes are represented by members who work and live in the Bluegrass State. Come and learn about the thriving communities who called Kentucky home and the people who played a vitally important role in the development of the Commonwealth. Leave with a deeper knowledge and awareness of current matters of concern to Indigenous Peoples and ways to help preserve, support, and promote Native history in Kentucky (and beyond). Join us for a powerful conversation and presentation by guest speaker Tressa Brown, Kentucky Native American Heritage Commission, on the Forgotten Voices of Kentucky.
