This convocation will feature J. Roderick Heller, former Trustee and Vice Chairman of the National Trust for Historical Preservation, and Stuart Sanders, Director of Research and Collections at the KY Historical Society and former executive director of the Perryville Battlefield Preservation Association (and Centre alumnus). These two distinguished guests, who have spent their scholarly and professional careers addressing monuments, memorials, and issues of collective memory, will join a roundtable discussion moderated by Centre Art History professors Peter Haffner and Amy Frederick, along with a Centre student, to address how we, as a society, memorialize difficult moments from the past and how to address generational shifts in cultural perspectives.
