New study abroad/away courses have been announced for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Centre College study abroad/away courses for the 2023-24 academic year were recently announced during an unveiling event by the College’s Center for Global Citizenship (CGC). The locations and new semester programs build on Centre’s global education guarantee and reputation as a national leader in study abroad.

Three new study abroad locations will be offered in the 2023-24 academic year: Ecuador; Alicante, Spain; and Istanbul, Turkey.

“It always amazes me how our Centre faculty develop and lead on programs all over the globe,” said Karen Ryan, assistant director of the CGC and study abroad. “This year we’ll see Belize, Bhutan, England, East Africa, Turkey, Italy, Senegal and The Gambia, Spain, Lake Tahoe, and Merida, Mexico. There is definitely something for everyone.”

As part of the College’s collaboration with Rhodes College and Sewanee University, Centre will offer a new semester program in Ecuador this year with a full course load on the Global Environmental Challenges program. The Mellon Foundation awarded an $850,000 grant to Centre, Rhodes and Sewanee in 2018 to expand learning experiences to make study abroad/away more accessible. Students will enroll in three courses in Cuenca, Ecuador, and a fourth course will be taught in the Amazon River basin and the Galapagos.

Three “immersion programs” will have classes taught exclusively in the host country language: Regensburg, Germany; Marista, Spain; and Nantes, France.

Also new this year, first-year students can now travel abroad in the summer, another first for the College.
