CENTRE COLLEGE CELEBRATES BICENTENNIAL
On January 21, 2019, Centre College turns 200. The founders of Centre College were a notable group of early Kentuckians that included Isaac Shelby, Kentucky’s first governor, and Dr. Ephraim McDowell, who performed the world’s first successful abdominal operation in Danville in 1809.
Family is an important part of the Centre community. As such, Centre offers several events that cater to the families of our students.
PERFORMING ARTS (Drama and Music)
Centre student drama productions, choral programs, instrumental ensembles including Centre Orchestra, CentreJazz, and the Kentucky Ensemble are all part of the performing arts program at Centre and most productions are open to the public.
CENTRE COLLEGE ATHLETICS
With a winning athletic tradition and commitment to academic excellence, Centre College, founded in 1819, is one of the nation’s oldest schools. Centre competes in 23 intercollegiate sports – 11 for men and 12 for women – with over 40 percent of the student body participating in one or more intercollegiate sport. The College also offers 15 intramural sports in which 80 percent of our students participate.

Located in the Jones Visual Arts Center (JVAC) the studio is home to all that is ART at Centre College. Student and guest artist exhibitions are presented here including Lino Tagliapietra, widely acknowledged to be the world’s foremost glass artist.
